The study aimed to identify the degree of use of alternative assessment methods by science teachers. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researchers designed a closed questionnaire formed after arbitration from (24) items distributed on six axes. The study sample consisted of (137) male and female science teachers in the basic education stage. The results of the study concluded that the axes combined, the average degree of science teachers' use of alternative evaluation methods was low, with a combined average of (2.46), and with regard to each axis separately, the evaluation axis based on observation obtained the first rank with a low degree of use and an arithmetic average of (2.51), and the evaluation axis based on communication got the second rank with a low degree of use and an arithmetic average of (2.46), and the performance-based evaluation axis got the third rank with a low degree of use with an arithmetic mean of (2.43), with a low degree of use. The results also showed that there were no statistically significant differences between the averages of the opinions of male and female teachers towards the degree of their use of alternative assessment methods due to the variables of academic qualification and number of years of experience. In the light of the results of the study, the two researchers recommend keenness on using alternative assessment methods when evaluating students, reviewing the current science teaching courses, and working on developing them in line with modern alternative assessment methods.
