Abstract

This research aims to estimate the average period in which the student stays in the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Aden, until graduation. It also aims to estimate the percentage of the students who will obtain a bachelor’s degree and who will be subject to dismissal. The descriptive-analytical method is used in this study by analyzing the data using one of the quantitative methods, which is Markov chains as one of the best models used in this domain. Average of successful, failing, dismissed, and graduate students for the period between 2006/2007 and 2019/2020 have been used in analyzing Markov chains instead of using one-year data. The research revealed several results including that there is no fundamental difference between the average length of staying in the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Aden and the regular period and that after a period of time of (four years and four months and twenty-five days, three years and six months and seventeen days, two years and nine months and eighteen days, a year and eleven months and seven days, a year and five days), (69%, 72%, 82%, 90%, and 100%) of the first, second, third, fourth and fifth level students, respectively, will graduate and the probability of their dismissal is (0.311, 0.275, 0.184, 0.099, 0).
