Abstract

The research aims to study the natural and human factors and their effects on the remains of historical monuments in Ahwar District, Abyan Governorate, located between two longitudes 47.10 - 45.45 E, and two latitudes 14.21 - 14.14 N. The study included a number of archaeological sites represented by monuments (Ghanam Al-Kuffar), and the scripts of Wadi Arar and some ancient forts.
The study showed that geographical factors obliterated large parts of the landmarks of such monuments due to the lack of competent authorities’ attention on those archaeological sites and buildings, as well as the lack of awareness and knowledge of the cultural heritage importance of the region in particular and Yemen in general.
The study concluded the importance of preserving the area's antiquities, spreading awareness of the importance of such antiquities and sharing the local community in the maintenance of such archaeological and tourist sites.
