IMPACT OF UNIVERSITY EDUCATION OUTPUT ON THE LABOUR MARKET IN THE REPUBLIC OF YEMEN FOR THE PERIOD (1998-2012)

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the impact of university education outputs on the labor market in Yemen during the period (1998-2012). This study relied on the descriptive analytical method by analyzing data using models of multiple linear regression and gradual decline to estimate the relationship between study variables, using the data of university education and the Yemeni labor market issued by the Central Bureau of Statistics. The study reached a number of results, including:

1. That University education in Yemen faces many challenges most notably the weakness of the outputs and the lack of suitability for the labor market, as well as the frequency of specializations in most colleges of public and private universities and not linked to the process of economic and social development in the country.
2. The results of the multiple linear regression analysis showed the significance of the estimated model at the level of significance of 0.05, and also showed that independent variables explain about 67% of the changes in the dependent variable during the study period.
3. The best model obtained using the gradual regression model to estimate the impact of university education variables on the number of workers in the labor market is the model: (W = 3453883.49 + 156.38GSPU), The results of the analysis also showed the significance of the total and independent variable model.

The study also concluded a number of recommendations, the most important of which is the necessity of developing educational programs and curricula, as well as coordination and partnership between universities and institutions based on the labor market to know their needs and requirements.
