Abstract

Aban Mosque is one of the historic landmarks of the city of Aden. It was founded at an early stage in the Islamic history of the city, no later than the beginning of the second century AH. This study examines the mosque, the history of its foundation, and its founder, Aban ibn Uthman, from a new perspective, based on the available evidence and recent studies. The study presents new perspectives on the founder and the date of construction, while critically examining some previous studies that favored other interpretations without analyzing the sources and comparing them with other studies and sources from outside Yemen.
